Things to do When Visiting our Henley on Thames Bed and Breakfast

Although the first bridge was built in 1234, today’s Henley Bridge was built in 1786. Its fove arch design spans across the Thames connecting the Berkshire side with the Oxfordshire side. It replaced the ancient wooden structure of whose remains are on exhibit.

Henley Royal Regatta Headquarters – located on the Oxfordshire side on Henley-in Thames is the home for the Henley Royal Regatta – a series of rowing competitions held over five days to include the first weekend in July. It boasts the oldest organized  rowing race competition in the world.

St. Mary’s Church is located nearby and is a great example of 16th century tower-based architecture that became popularly accepted throughout Europe.

Venture to nearby Fair Mile where 60 oak trees were planted in the shape of a Victoria Cross to celebrate the 60th Jubilee of Queen Victoria.

In the middle of Henley, find the oldest building, a traditional English pub dubbed the Old Bell constructed in 1325.

Fawley Court – has buildings dating back to the 12th century with as many additions being built all the way through the 17th. The site once served as a school for Polish boys. The museum displays exhibits about Polish history including many reminders about the Polish citizens who died in concentration camps during World War II. It also has an extensive collection of military memorabilia dating back to the 15th century.

River Rowing Museum – has many exhibitions and galleries specifically designed for any member of the family to enjoy including an extremely educational and entertaining about the history of the River Thames and its impact upon local life.
